UNITED KINGDOM – Two drag queens have been savagely attacked in the northern British city of Liverpool.
Drag artist Lady Shaun, well-known in the gay community as a street entertainer, is recovering from a broken jaw after she was knocked out by a man who punched her in the face.
She told the Liverpool Echo, “Never in a million years did I think this could ever happen to me and now it has.”
The 46-year-old performer added that people needed to change their attitudes towards gay people. “We need to make our streets safe for everybody,” he said. “I see myself as a gay ambassador to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and transsexual people and I want them to know that we shouldn’t be ashamed to stand up for ourselves.”
Just two weeks earlier, Calvin Fox was set upon by two people on his way home after a night out in the gay quarter. The 21-year-old choreographer was pushed to the ground from behind, suffering bruising and cuts to his face. Calvin is calling for more security on the streets.
