Rex Navarrete

House of Blues presents Rex Navarrete, one of the hardest working, relatively unknown American comedians today. He has performed alongside notable national headliners such as George Lopez, DL Hughley and Paul Mooney.

Navarrete gathers all of his material from what he calls “real Rex moments,” reality and shared life experiences. He says, “I think everything has humor; you will always find humor. I don’t always make stuff up.”

Jazz Fest

The Gaslamp and Smooth 98.1 FM radio present the 2011 Jazz Festival, San Diego’s biggest annual all-day Jazz event. With two outdoor stages, entertainment headliners include Norman Brown, Craig Chaquico, Eric Darius, Spencer Day, Richard Elliot, Euge Groove, Jessy J and Steve Oliver, plus other bands and solo artists performing in various Gaslamp venues.

18th annual Sicilian Festival

The 18th annual Sicilian Festival celebrates all things Sicilian, including music, dance, culture and cuisine. Three music stages and a beer garden are included in the festival, which occupies India Street from Ash to Grape Streets.

Emmy Award winning Giada De Laurentiis offers cooking demonstrations at an outdoor mobile kitchen. A noontime parade of dozens of costumed dancers, musicians, and representatives of the Italian organizations in San Diego highlights the full day of music, food and fun.

Actors Who Write

Actors Who Write is an innovative project conceived and directed by San Diego Actors Theatre Artistic Director, Patricia Elmore Costa, to celebrate their 25 years of presenting theatre outreach and professional live theatre in San Diego.
Actors Who Write is exactly that – a group of talented and creative San Diego actors who write. The ensemble presents a concert reading of their original material, which includes a series of monologues and scenes based on Secrets and Lies along with musical accompaniment.

Face to Face

Face to Face: Works from the Bank of America Collection explores one of the largest corporate collections of photography in the United States, illuminating the rich historical diversity of photographic portraiture. Curated from one of the leading corporate collections, Face to Face includes some of the earliest techniques, including a salt paper print from the 1840s by David Octavius Hill and Robert Adamson, and a half-plate daguerreotype by Albert Southworth and Josiah Johnson Hawes.
