Armada ends season, starts summer tourneys

The San Diego Armada Rugby Team, the local chapter of the International Gay Rugby Association and Board (IGRAB), ended their regular season recently, and are already preparing for their summer tournaments.

“The season just ended. We ended in the middle of the table,” said Carlos, the team’s coach. “Last season we made it to the playoffs. This time we didn’t.”

He said the team started the season strong, but had challenges in the second half after several of their key players, who also served in the military, were deployed overseas. Still, Carlos said it was a decent season.

Now, the Armada is making plans to participate in several summer tournaments, including Magnitude, an IGRAB tournament in Seattle during Memorial Day weekend. New players are always welcome.

“We’re always looking for new players,” Carlos said. “Right now is a good time to join if you have never played.”
