After a year hiatus, television star Neil Patrick Harris has signed on once again to host the 65th annual Tony Awards.
Harris first hosted the show in 2009, and together with producers Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss earned a Creative Arts Emmy Award for his work at the 2010 Emmys. Now, he looks forward to returning to the stage on June 12 – and promises a few surprises up his sleeve come showtime.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Harris, upon accepting the offer to host the Tonys, said, “I’m honored and stoked to have been asked,” and that “it should be a great show.”
After all, as Harris pointed out, the Tonys will feature live music, special appearances…and “all the rigging equipment from Spider-Man.”
“What could possibly go wrong?” Harris joked.
Neil Patrick Harris will be joined once again by executive producers Kirshner and Weiss, who stated that they are “thrilled” to have Neil back as the show’s host. The Tonys will air on CBC on June 12, 2011.
