Popular British boyband Blue has reunited after an initial split back in 2005. While the megahit Eurovision Song Contest is the primary reason for their reunion, the boys also seized the opportunity presented by Prince Williams’ royal nuptials to celebrate with a “saucy performance” at London’s famous G-A-Y bar on Saturday night.
Front man Duncan James and bandmates Lee Ryan, Antony Costa and Simon Webbe took the stage at the premier gay venue dressed as grooms, while back-up dancers clad in bridal gowns paid cheeky tribute to the newly wed Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Unlike the ever-appropriate and sophisticated Catherine, however, the dancers spiced things up as the evening wore on by tearing off their gowns and stripping down to skimpy underwear. How’s that for a twist on royal decorum?
After the show, James explained “the whole nation is feeling so patriotic this weekend, that we really wanted to do something as a tribute to William and Kate.” James added that “the feeling of support for the U.K. currently is amazing. When we’ve travelled round Europe promoting Eurovision there is a really good feeling for us Brits out there. Hopefully the royal wedding fever is gonna help us get (full points) at Eurovision.”
With the Eurovision Song Contest less than two weeks away, we’ll hope that Blue continues to ride the royal wedding wave until the big day. The competition takes place May 11, 2011.
