This past February, Atlantis Events created the largest gay and lesbian cruise event to date when they chartered one of the world’s biggest cruise ships, the Allure of the Seas, for an LGBT group voyage. Now, based on the popularity of that sold out cruise, another major LGBT travel company Concierge Travel, has planned a second trip on the 225,282-ton vessel.
Set for January 3-8, 2012, the cruise will set sail from Fort Lauderdale and sweep passengers to the Caribbean for a five-night adventure aboard the spectacular Royal Caribbean ship. Unlike Atlantis, Concierge is not booking the entire vessel; however, they have reserved a block of rooms for gay and lesbian passengers and are advertising the trip as a “family friendly” event.
The Allure of the Seas, still brand new at only five months old, is the gem of the Royal Caribbean fleet. At 16 decks high, almost 1,200 feet long and complete with live foliage, pedestrian parks and a Boardwalk entertainment complex, the ship is matched only by its sister vessel the Oasis of the Sea in terms of sheer size, magnificence and innovation.
