San Diego sends unprecedented delegation to California Democratic Party Convention

Led by San Diego County Democratic Party Chairman Jess Durfee, 40 members of the San Diego Democratic Club will attend the California Democratic Party Convention as delegates.

That number represents nearly 21 percent of the San Diego County Delegates to this year’s Convention. Most delegates were elected in Assembly District caucuses last January or elected by local Party Central Committees. Democratic officeholders appointed some.

“The number of SDDC members in the delegation is a testament to the club’s commitment to coalition building and organization,” Durfee said. “The club’s general membership meeting on the eve of the convention, which focuses on the scapegoating of the American Labor movement here in San Diego and across the country, shows not only that we are everywhere, but that we’re involved in all progressive issues.”

The SDDC meeting, which is open to the public, is April 28 at 7 p.m. at the Joyce Beers Community Center, in the Uptown District shopping center in Hillcrest. The convention is April 29 – May 1 in Sacramento.

The SDDC members serving as CDP Convention delegates are Maggie Allington, David Alvarez, Assemblywoman Toni Atkins, Bill Beck, Assemblyman Marty Block, Jennifer Campbell, Derek Casady, Nancy Casady, Joanne Climie, Matt Corrales, Ryan Darsey, Jeri Dilno, Suzie Ditmars, Jess Durfee, Richard Geisler, John Gordon, Cindy Green, Vince Hall, Ryan Hurd, William Irvine, Gloria Johnson, Senator Christine Kehoe, Kelly King, Kyle Krahel, Michelle Krug, Phyllis McGrath, Janet Meredith, Tim Orozco, Brian Polejes, Nicolaz Portillo, Craig Roberts, Frederick Rogers, Caridad Sanchez, Gerry Senda, Andrea Villa, Julie Warren, Patricia Washington, former Assemblyman Howard Wayne, Stephen Whitburn and Doug White.

The San Diego Democratic Club, an affiliate of National Stonewall Democrats, was founded in 1975 and is the largest club chartered with the Democratic Party in San Diego County. For more information, log on to sddemoclub.org.
