There’s something  special about the south. Teas are sipped a bit longer. Conversations linger. An air of belonging wafts through the air. A sense of family – it feels just right.

It’s no surprise then that OutRaleigh, the largely popular southern gay festival, will celebrate Pride as one big, happy family. This year’s theme ‘We’re all family here’ will feature family entertainment and even a little religious inspiration (it IS the south after all). Southerners can celebrate the creature comforts of home including a KidsZone, educational entertainment, and even an appearance by none other than southern queen Cybil Shepherd.

Religious support from The Catholic Community of St. Francis of Assisi, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh, St. John’s Metropolitan Community Church, the Pullen Baptist Church and others will celebrate LGBT equality the family way – with love, respect and kindness.

While there will always be the allure of zoo parties, scantily-clad men and women, and tipped glasses in celebration of Pride, it’s the family comfort of OutRaleigh that attracts thousands of visitors from around the nation. The OutRaleigh festival is on Saturday, May 14 in Downtown Raliegh.
