The well-known, tongue-in-cheek gay blog Queerty is closing its digital doors after five years of gossipy coverage.

David Hauslaib, Queerty founder and internet entrepreneur, opted to shut the site down Monday after several weeks worth of technical difficulties and disagreements with corporate partner 353Media.

An official announcement regarding the site’s demise explains that “the decision to shutter the site was not an easy one to make, and it is with great pain that we say goodbye to our loyal readership. From all of Queerty’s writers and contributors, from our first unto our last day, thank you for spending some time with us.”

According to reporters at ChicagoPride.com, Queerty’s abrupt and untimely end surprised many readers, who assumed the site would survive with the help of corporate funding even if other struggling LGBT sites such as Bilerico and Pam’s House Blend were threatening to shut down. However, despite its popularity with dedicated readers, Queerty was disliked by a number of other LGBT publications and media reactions to the news of its demise have been mixed.
