Kevin Keller, gay pal to Archie, Veronica and the rest of the “Archie” crew at Riverdale High, has earned himself a mini-series set for publication in June.
After his introduction in “Veronica” No. 202, Kevin Keller caused Archie Comics publishers to do their first second printing in history. The character’s popularity and connection with fans has inspired the upcoming mini-series, currently under production at the hand of writer and artist Dan Parent.
Parent explained to The Associated Press that “I think as time marches on, gay characters in comics will become m ore commonplace and it won’t be a big media event every time a gay character is introduced.”
“The world of Riverdale has to reflect contemporary culture and to show it is an accepting, diverse place,” Parent added. “And that’s why Kevin is important, to show that everybody is welcome in this all-American town we’ve embraced for over 70 years.”
The mini-series featuring Kevin Keller will focus on the character’s background, burgeoning friendships with Veronica and the rest of the Riverdale community, strong relationship with his father and process of coming out as a young gay man.
