Is Mike Aguirre running for San Diego mayor?

Mike Aguirre

Word has it that many supporters of  Mike Aguirre, former City Attorney, are urging him to throw his hat into the ring for San Diego mayor.

Aguirre could possibly be joining fellow Democrats Congressman Bob Filner and State Senator Christine Kehoe in the 2012 hotly-contested mayoral race.  There are already eight well-known Republicans taking a close look at their possibilities: District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis has formally announced, Councilman Carl Dimaio has filed papers for an exploratory committee, State Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, Coucilman Kevin Faulconer, businessman Steve Francis, as well as a host of others.

When I spoke with Aguirre, he confirmed many supporters are urging him to run.  In potentially such a crowded race, Aguirre said he was giving it serious consideration.  The reality is with the possible mayoral candidates including a Congressman, state senator, state assemblyman, district attorney, councilmembers, a former city attorney and fromer city councilmembers, as well as millionaire business people, the race is really up for grabs.  2012 promises to be a mayoral free for all.

  1. But Mike didn’t really run for City Attorney. He limped through the last election. Whoever runs…we can’t endure any more of Bonnie Dumanis. Just say No to Bonnie Dumanis.
