Every time I heard that the release date of I Love You, Phillip Morris was changed, I worried that it must be awful and the studio just wanted to find the perfect time to bury it. When it finally arrived last fall, I realized the delays weren’t because of the film’s low quality but because writer-directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa had made a dirty, subversive and hilarious movie. It’s awesome. Jim Carrey is Steven Russell, a charismatic, sly and very Carrey con artist who falls madly in love with a fellow inmate in a Texas jail, the sweet, naïve and adorable Phillip Morris, played with typical skill by Ewan McGregor. Steven breaks every law you can imagine to be with Phillip, and it would be unbelievable if it wasn’t a true story.
