The late Elizabeth Taylor was a highly recognized ally to the LGBT community – and now fans and patrons of her favorite West Hollywood gay bar have created a shrine to celebrate her memory.
Word is out that The Abbey, a popular gay bar at which Taylor is said to have been a frequent visitor, now hosts a shrine to the actress who passed away yesterday at the age of 79. Fans and regulars alike have been bringing flowers and other memorabilia to the shrine, which has taken over The Abbey’s V.I.P. room (Taylor’s preferred hangout).
In honor of the screen legend’s memory, bartenders at The Abbey have created a signature drink that pays tribute to her legacy. The cocktail, dubbed the “Blue Velvet Martini,” is made with Blue Angel vodka and blueberry schnapps and was inspired by Taylor’s role in the 1944 film National Velvet. The Elizabeth Taylor cocktail will be available all weekend and sale proceeds will be donated to her landmark AIDS foundation.
The Abbey is located at 692 N. Robertson Blvd. in West Hollywood, CA.
