Transgender star represents Israel at Song Contest

ISRAEL – Singer Dana International, one of the most famous transgender celebrities in the world, is once again going to represent Israel in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, after being selected by Israeli TV viewers.

The 39-year-old star, real name Sharon Cohen, will perform her new song “Ding Dong” in the competition, being held in Germany this year.

A previous contest winner for Israel in 1998, she has since released eight albums, making her one of the country’s most successful pop acts.

“I’m crazy about this country,” International told the Yediot Aharonot newspaper. “I love everyone and I’m really happy to have been given another opportunity to bring the Eurovison back to Israel.”

International came out as transgender at the age of 13 and in 1993 flew to London for male-to-female sex reassignment surgery.
