San Diego Latino Film Festival Features LGBT Cinema

Media Arts Center San Diego presents the annual San Diego Latino Film Festival, now celebrating its
18th season. The 11-day event is March 10-20 at the UltraStar Mission Valley Cinemas Hazard Center.

The Festival features more than 20,000 festival attendees; 160 entertaining and award-winning movies starring such actors as Ricardo Darin, Martha Higareda, Demian Bichir, Adal Ramones, Carmen Salinas, Daniel Gimenez Cacho and more; plus, special guest celebrities, recognized filmmakers, industry professionals, artists, and musicians.

A few of the feature films to be screened include: El Atentado starring Daniel Gimenez Cacho, Flamenco, Flamenco directed by Carlos Saura, Runway starring Demian Bichir, Chicogrande starring Demian Alcazar, Revolucion starring Adriana Barraza, Carancho starring Ricardo Darin, Martin Al Amanecer starring Adal Ramones, Te Presento A Laura starring Martha Higareda, and many more.

The Latino Film Festival also features several LGBT-themed films, as part of its Cine Gay showcase.

“San Diego Latino Film Festival continues its mission to help correct the often distorted images seen on television and in movies by presenting a landmark year of its Cine Gay Showcase,” reads the Festival’s website.  “Challenging the historical exclusion of under-represented communities in the media, the festival takes advantage of the opportunity of this showcase to highlight experiences of gay life in different corners of the world, underlining the universal experience as well as the unique expressions of the Latin LGBT community.”

Tickets are $10 per film, or $8 for students, seniors and military. Film Passes are $90, which includes entrance to 11 films, no waiting in lines and VIP seating. Festival Pass are $180, which includes more than 100 programs, no waiting in lines, VIP seating, four workshops, and entrance into all Festival Galas.
