Harvard University opened its doors Friday to welcome the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) to its campus as an important step in moving past old divisions that prevented Americans from entering the military.
But, not everyone on campus is thrilled. Protesters feel the decision to bring ROTC back on campus (since the Vietnam war era) discriminates against LGBT students who may be prohibited from participating in an officially recognized program on Harvard’s campus.
After the Obama administration ended ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ last year, he called upon U.S. university campuses to allow the military and the ROTC to recruit potential enlisters.
Harvard University is one of the first universities that has embraced the White House calling to embrace military presence on college campuses.
