Former Marine speaks out for gay marriage in controversial New Hampshire newspaper ad

The conservative and widely circulated New Hampshire Union Leader ran a full-page ad today advocating equal rights and marriage equality in the form of a letter to the New Hampshire legislature.

The ad, sponsored by New Hampshire Freedom to Marry, features a letter from former Marine and self-declared conservative Craig Stowell in which he chastises legislative efforts to eliminate same-sex marriage as not only wrong, but also “completely off task.” Instead of fighting to rob individuals of their marriage rights, Stowell insists, legislators should be focusing on critical economic recovery initiatives.

“No real conservative believes government should be managing the personal lives of any decent law-abiding citizens of New Hampshire,” Stowell states.

Among these citizens is Stowell’s openly gay brother, Calvin. As a proud brother and staunch defender of freedom and liberty, Craig Stowell insists that no one has the right to take away his brother’s freedom to marry. The letter is accompanied by a photo of the brothers and the New Hampshire Freedom to Marry slogan, “Standing Up for New Hampshire Families.”
