Young LGBT leaders: Congressional internships now available

The Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute today announced a new summer program for promising LGBT college students interested in working with Congressional leaders in Washington, D.C. The Victory Congressional Internship is a competitive program seeking to place five well-qualified undergraduate students as Congressional interns in the LGBT Equality Caucus.

Students who are elected to fill this role will have access to leadership development opportunities through GLLI. Students will also be required to fill various community service projects through their role as a Congressional intern.

Undergraduates who are selected for the program will emerge as “informed decision-makers and influential leaders who can change their communities and our world,” according to the program’s website.

In addition to the summer internship, students will have the opportunity to further their learning and networking during the fall semester. Through December, students will attend GLLI’s annual international conference for three days of additional skill building. Students will have the chance to discuss LGBT initiatives such as politics, advocacy, business, and other community efforts alongside influential government leaders through GLLI’s Congressional internship program.

Undergraduates who are interested in this internship should visit www.glli.org/vci for more information. The deadline to submit an application is March 7, 2011.
