Dr. Delores A. Jacobs, chief executive officer of The San Diego LGBT Community Center, has announced that Jeffrey Wergeles will step down from his position as The Center’s Director of Development, effective Feb. 11, 2011.

Wergeles is leaving The Center after a three-year tenure to accept a development position with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of San Diego and Imperial Counties. The ACLU is a national legal organization focused to fight for individual rights and fundamental freedoms through education, litigation and policy advocacy, and is a partner in the fight for equal treatment for all people under the law.

“We are pleased and proud of Jeff, and grateful for his service to The Center over these past few years,” Jacobs said. “As the senior team member responsible for fundraising, Jeff has worked tirelessly over the past few years to ensure the sustainability of The Center in one of the most challenging economies we’ve seen in a generation. His commitment to our mission is unwavering and his services have been invaluable.

“While we will miss him and his contributions to The Center, we wish him all the best as he begins a new chapter in his professional life. I’m certain he will be an incredibly valuable asset to the ACLU, one of our trusted allies in the fight for justice and equality.”

Wergeles said, “The past three years at The Center have been incredibly rewarding. During my tenure we saw the greatest economic upheaval since the Great Depression and I can think of no other place that I would have rather been a fundraiser than at The Center. The work that the dedicated staff does here for our community is nothing short of amazing. I am very proud to have been a part of this valuable organization.”

In the interim, development-related questions or concerns may be directed to Dr. Jacobs at djacobs@thecentersd.org or via phone at (619) 692-2077, ext. 215. As The Center begins its search for development professionals, interested parties should also contact Dr. Jacobs.
