NEW ZEALAND – A Northland lesbian couple has been overwhelmed with support and sympathy after their flower business in Mangawhai Heads was set ablaze in an alleged anti- gay attack.
Owners Juliet Leigh and Lindsay Curnow operated Blooming Bulbs from a small packing shed next to their home, located just north of Auckland. Their business was destroyed by fire last week.
Curnow said the couple had received about 500 emails of sympathy and support, and the local newspaper reports they have received flowers, food and lodging offers from several neighbors.
“The response is amazing … making the horribleness seem more distant,” Curnow said, adding, “but, actually, we are (still) frightened.”
