Chaz Bono premieres documentary at Sundance

As Chaz Bono premiered his autobiographical documentary Becoming Chaz at Sundance just last week, some news agencies indicate he is already working on a sequel.

Becoming Chaz document’s Bono’s female-to-male transition. The 41 year old allowed directors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato to film him as he underwent gender reassignment surgery in 2008. He reveals almost every aspect of the process, from physical to psychological impacts. His mother, pop sensation and gay icon Cher, even appears in the movie.

“I wanted to do this because I wanted to help people,” Bono says in the movie. “And I knew that … I could put a face on this issue that people just don’t understand because it’s a hard one to understand. I wanted to be able to change people’s hearts and minds on this.”

Reports from Sundance suggest Oprah Winfrey is in negotiations to buy the documentary and air it on her new OWN TV network, yet confirmation was not available at press time. The Post Chronicle reports Bono has signed on for a sequel to his documentary film.
